Not so long ago I made some bad hair decisions. Oh, I thought I was being fashionable at the time, but I soon learned that sometimes it’s better to cut your losses and run.
In this case I had to cut my hair, to about two inches in length. Thanks to my ultra-talented hairdresser I managed to not only pull off a pixie cut, but I rocked that ‘do from sunrise to sunset.
Then I got to that dreaded in-between stage where I either wanted to cut it off or have it grow already. Needless to say, experience has taught me a thing or two about growing long, healthy hair.
To Grow Healthy Hair Quickly, Get to the Root
The Royal Oil Treatment
A considerable amount of breakage and damage can be prevented early with regular deep conditioning treatments. My personal favorite form of deep conditioning is a hot oil treatment. I’ve experimented with a variety of natural oils.
Some of my favorites include olive oil, sweet almond oil, grapeseed oil, red oil, and coconut oil. I just heat them up enough to be warm then massage the oils through my hair, concentrating on the ends and the roots.
To make this treatment even more indulgent and stimulate my scalp, I like to add a drop of peppermint essential oil to my natural oil. Not only does the peppermint smell amazing, the tingling sensation in my scalp lets me know it is really doing the trick.
PS: it sounds silly, but taking the time to breathe deeply and be relaxed can make a big difference in the overall condition of your hair. Just as your scalp needs to be stimulated to increase circulation to the root, simply breathing deep, calming breaths can also improve your circulation throughout your entire body. Scalp included.
Lemon and Olive Oil Mask
If where you live has dry surroundings, you may experience dandruff. Scratching and irritating skin – who likes that? This lemon and olive oil mask is great if you experience dryness in your scalp.
Simply mix 2 tbsp of fresh lemon juice with 2 tbsp of olive oil and 2 tbsp water. Massage softly into damp scalp for few minutes. Wrap your head in warm damp towel. Let the mixture for 15 – 20 minutes.
Rinse and shampoo your hair. You will feel the difference. Massaging your hair is very relaxing anyways, so it can be done at least once a week.
Avocado and Coconut Oil Hair Mask
Avocado and coconut oil are great to moisturize your hair. Avocado is also high in Vitamin B and E.
Combine half ripe avocado, 1 tbsp softened coconut oil and ¼ tsp Vitamin E oil. Mix these three ingredients until smooth. Apply this mixture into your dry hair.
If you have long hair already, you can make a bun or braid. Let it sit for 20 or so minutes. Rinse, shampoo and condition your hair as usual. You can do this treatments at least once a week.
Avocado and Banana Hair Mask
Combine ½ mashed avocado and ½ mashed banana. Puree them until the mix becomes soft. Add 1 egg and 2 tbsp olive oil to the mix. Again mix until this paste becomes smooth.
Apply the mix to dry hair and let it sit for 25 – 30 minutes. Rinse with cool water. If you use too warm or hot water, it may cook the egg. Shampoo and condition as usual.
Avocado and Mayo Hair Mask
Mayo and avocado make an awesome eco friendly, harsh chemicals free hair mask that will make your hair soft, healthy and luscious. Simply mix 1 avocado with 1 cup of mayo until it becomes a soft paste.
Apply the mix to your damp hair and massage to stimulate. Cover your hair with plastic wrap or shower cap. Let it sit for 20 or so minutes. Shampoo and condition your hair as usual.

Always make sure that you,
Drink More Water
Proper moisture in your hair begins with proper moisture in your body. If your body isn’t hydrated you can bet your hair will be dull, dry and lifeless as a result.
Be sure to consume your recommended daily allowance of water, and then a bit more for good measure, especially during the hot days of summer.
Eat a Healthy Diet
Hair is primarily made up of protein, which comes directly from your diet. This means no junk food, only clean sources of healthy fuel for you now!
Not only will you notice healthier, longer, more-beautiful tresses, the rest of your body’s health will be much improved as well. Remember to take additional vitamins to support healthy hair growth like folic acid and the ever popular hair, skin and nails formula available at your local pharmacy.
